Tasks

If you are a people person, love horses and/or take care of horses, then our volunteer project in the equine therapy center in Santiago de Chile is just right for you. You have the opportunity to work together with the therapists and thereby gain valuable insights into the treatment methods of equine therapy.

Horse therapy is a proven treatment option for people with various illnesses and disabilities. This improves the patient’s coordination and sense of balance. Body tensions can be released and a new body feeling can be developed on the back of a horse. The equine therapy center primarily treats children and young people with autism, Down’s syndrome, cerebral palsy or other developmental disorders.

In order to work in the equine therapy center in Santiago de Chile you should be sensitive, patient, love children and animals and, if necessary, you should be able to lend a hand. Previous educational or medical knowledge is advantageous, but not a requirement.

The following tasks are part of this volunteer project:

  • Support of therapists in therapy sessions
  • Playful engagement with the patient
  • Accompany the patient during the therapy sessions on horseback
  • Leading horses

Accommodation and Meals

Accommodation is in a homestay. A homestay is similar to a host family. They are rooms in private households in which one or more rooms are rented to volunteers, interns or language students. In most homestays, the landlord himself also lives in the accommodation. All landlords are cosmopolitan, very hospitable and eager to receive people from abroad.

Your landlord can be a single person, a warm señora, young professionals, students or even couples and families. Homestay accommodation offers you deep insights into Chilean culture and language.

We offer single rooms as an accommodation option. A double room is also possible on request. Internet access is available and you can book half-board if you wish. You always have free access to the shared rooms, such as the living room, kitchen or bathroom. All accommodations are in a safe location with good transport links.

Work place

The equine therapy center is located just outside of Santiago de Chile. Your accommodation will be centrally located in Santiago.

Santiago, the capital of Chile, is the heart of the nation with almost 6 million inhabitants and one of the most important financial centers in Latin America. The city has many faces in both cultural and architectural terms. Traditional neighborhoods, well-tended mansions and colonial buildings compete with modern office complexes, bold skyscrapers and the modern metro system. You will find modern shopping centers, but also small noisy street markets with Indian handicrafts.

From Santiago there are numerous outdoor opportunities within an hour, such as Climbing, rafting, bathing in hot springs or trips to several ski areas (June-September). The Pacific coast is also only an hour away. Many Santiaginos use the proximity of nature in the summer (December-February) to escape the noise of the big city for a weekend and go to the mountains or to the beaches.
