Tasks
The dog shelter serves as a rehabilitation center for stray or abused dogs. There are over 100 dogs in the shelter. The animals are trained by a dog trainer so that they are well behaved and healthy when they are later adopted. In addition to dog training, the shelter is dedicated to the care of the dogs and the treatment of injuries or illnesses in the associated small hospital ward.
In addition, people who cannot have their dogs treated in veterinary clinics for financial reasons are supported. In the small veterinary clinic, dogs from socially disadvantaged pet owners are vaccinated, sterilized and treated for free or for a very low price.
The following tasks belong to this volunteer project:
- Grooming the dogs (bathing, brushing, etc.)
- Feed dogs
- Play with the dogs
- Accompany dogs in the free run area
- Support in training and rehabilitation of dogs
- Help with adoption events
- Cleaning of the grounds and enclosures
- Other tasks related to the well-being of the dogs

Accommodation and Meals
Accommodation is in a homestay. A homestay is similar to a host family. They are rooms in private households in which one or more rooms are rented to volunteers, interns or language students. In most homestays, the landlord lives in the accommodation himself. All landlords are open minded, very hospitable and eager to receive people from abroad.
Your landlord can be a single person, a warm señora, young professionals, students or even couples and families. Homestay accommodation offers you deep insights into Chilean culture and language.
We offer single rooms as an accommodation option. A double room is also possible on request. Internet connection is available. You always have free access to the commonly used rooms, such as the living room, kitchen or bathroom. All accommodations are in a safe location with good transport links.

Work place
Your volunteer project in the dog shelter takes place in Casablanca. The place is located between the capital Santiago de Chile and the picturesque port city of Valparaíso. The place is about 1 hour west of Santiago and 30 minutes south-east of Valparaíso.
The Casablanca Valley is a Chilean wine region where mainly white wine is produced. It got its name, so the anecdote, from Queen Barbara of Casablanca, wife of the Spanish King Ferdinand VII. The village has about 20,000 inhabitants.
